Round 2 Dirt Series

March 12th, Pala, California -   While travelling into California Nic took advantage of the opportunity to visit some sponsors.  First stop was GBC Tires and then a short drive over to Torco Advanced Lubricants and then to Vista California to visit DWT Wheels followed by a nice evening by the ocean in Carlsbad California.

Most of the dirt series offer a Saturday practice session, Nic made his way to the Pala race track for the afternoon practice session to get familiar with the layout of the track and to fine tune his set up of his Yamaha YXZ.

With beautiful weather leading up to the event, there was no threat of rain with the temperature rising up into the 90s’. Half way through the first practice session, Nic attempted to clear a big jump but unfortunately the lip had an unfavourable kicker that caused Nic to almost flip end over end but years of driving experience and exceptional skill he managed to avoid catastrophe.  “Lesson learned, I won’t be trying that jump again,” Nic laughed.

Nic spent Saturday night prepping the car for Sunday’s race.

Sunday morning race day-Moto one was uneventful with a second place start.  Nic pressured the leader for the first two laps.  Carrying more speed through the whoops, Nic was able to pass around the outside and secured first place.  Nic held a blistering pace, pulling away for the win.

Moto two once again had a close battle going into turn one, placing Nic in second place.  While pressuring the leader and attempting to make several passes, they made contact causing a mechanical issue for Nic.  Even though Nic had an issue, he still secured the overall win for the UTV 1000 Pro Production class.  This makes Nic’s second consecutive win in the Dirt Series and maintains his points lead.
